Chair Lee on city governance fellowship program

New York City Council · Jun 8, 2026 · starts 0:21:03 · 1 min 15 sec

Lee asks about the $3.4 million for the city governance program with the Campaign Finance Board, including how many fellows will be selected and the selection process. The Chancellor says they will follow up with numbers.

Linda Lee

FY27 executive budget also includes $3.4 million only in intra-city funding as a new need for the city governance program.

Linda Lee

With the Campaign Finance Board, and the program will support fellows gaining work experience in civic engagement, which is great.

Linda Lee

How many fellows will be selected, and what will be the selection process for that?

Félix Matos Rodríguez

Who has the numbers for that, Ken, or?

Félix Matos Rodríguez

So we need to get back to you on that.

Félix Matos Rodríguez

I mean, the great thing about that program, too, is that it's consistent with our approach to give students a lot more paid and earned opportunities, right?

Félix Matos Rodríguez

It's money in their pockets, and they're also advancing their education while serving the city, but we can get you the numbers.

Linda Lee

Okay.

Linda Lee

And for the host organizations, do you know approximately how many you're going to be partnering with and if you're going to also anticipate extra funding in the out years for this program?

Félix Matos Rodríguez

Again, the more funding we have, the more students that we can include, and the more that we can partner with other groups, I can get you a list of the organizations to be precise.

Linda Lee

Okay.

Linda Lee

And I don't know if you break it down this way, but if you could sort of give us an average of like how much the cost would be per student because, you know, and let us know what your, I guess, how much you would want to expand it to, which would also include the budget.

Linda Lee

Okay, perfect.
