Chair Lee on tuition adjustment and enrollment trends

New York City Council · Jun 8, 2026 · starts 0:22:18 · 1 min 31 sec

Lee asks about the $25 million tuition adjustment reduction and CUNY's projected vs actual enrollment for FY25 and FY26. Batista reports enrollment trending upward with 179,000 FTE and 239,000 total enrollment in FY26.

Linda Lee

There's also a $25 million reduction in FY26 only for tuition adjustment related to student enrollment.

Linda Lee

What was CUNY's projected student enrollment versus the actual for FY25, which I know is going back a little bit, and FY26?

Félix Matos Rodríguez

Can you have those?

Linda Lee

And then also just whether you anticipate an increase or decrease in FY27.

Hector Batista

So the 26 enrollment on FTE basis is at the senior colleges 128,000, at the junior colleges, at the community colleges, pardon me, 51,000 for a total of 179.

Hector Batista

That's about 4,000 in total.

Hector Batista

Above the 4400 above the FY25 level.

Hector Batista

That's on the FTE basis.

Hector Batista

On a total basis, those numbers are 26, 164 at the senior colleges, 75 at the community colleges.

Hector Batista

For a total of 239, which is 1,700 higher than the enrollment in 25.

Linda Lee

Okay, great.

Linda Lee

So the trends are increasing, which is good to see.

Hector Batista

The enrollment trend is ticking upward.

Linda Lee

Yes, that's good.

Hector Batista

Amen.

Linda Lee

Yeah.
