Councilmember Brewer questions court technology and electronic filing status
Brewer asks about technology issues and e-filing progress. Zayas says e-filing took too long but is rolling out in Supreme Courts, with three counties done or in process, and lower criminal court planned next.
On that front, when I would go mostly to family court, not criminal, but always the technology was an issue.
You mentioned it in your statement about the increasing, hopefully, electronic filing.
But generally, is the technology something that is up to par?
Do you find that that's an issue, or is that something that you find is satisfactory?
Yeah, it took us too long to get e-filing into the criminal side of things.
That's now completely done?
It's not completely done, but it's getting there.
So Manhattan is next or something.
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, look, the original e-filing statute.
Required us to get permission from the legislature every time we wanted to do it in another court.
So we got a bill passed that essentially allowed the chief administrative judge to decide wholesale what courts should be done next.
And so we're doing that in Supreme Court.
We're going to do it in lower criminal court as well.
And I think three
of the counties now in Supreme Court in the city, either in the process or have been done already.
