Public testimony: Michael Aziz Abib Shabazz, member since 1960s, supports project
Michael Aziz Abib Shabazz, associated with the masjid since the 1960s when it was Temple Number Seven, testifies in support. He notes Malcolm X's name remains on the deed and expresses hope to live in one of the new apartments upon completion.
As-salamu alaykum.
Alaykum as-salam.
And shalom to other members on the panel.
My name is Michael Aziz Abib Shabazz.
And I must say, this project that's actually pending is very personal and dear to me because I've been actually associated
with the masjid going back in the 60s when it was actually temple number seven.
And I believe the imam gave some history on that.
And I basically repeat and reiterate that because El-Haz Malik El-Shabazz.
Better known to us as Malcolm X.
He still has his name on his deed.
So as long as I'm alive and I have spirit in my body, I must stand up and remind people that this masjid has a very long history.
Now, in reference to the project in general,
Obviously, I submit that because reflecting back to the 60s when I was growing up, that was Temple 7 to me.
And I'm still here.
And hopefully within them.
Beautiful buildings that we anticipate will be complete.
I don't know how long it's going to take, perhaps five years.
And inshallah, Lord willing, I will be alive to enjoy one of the apartments.
