Chair Lee on nonprofit partnerships and language access for SCRI outreach

New York City Council · Jul 15, 2026 · starts 0:49:53 · 49 sec

Lee asks whether HPD partners with nonprofits and how many languages are offered for SCRI outreach. Walpert says they use a language line and seek community partnerships. Lee encourages culturally competent nonprofit partnerships.

Linda Lee

Tenants associations, also nonprofits, do you partner with any of those?

Linda Lee

Because when I was on the nonprofit side for many years, I know that we helped a lot of our residents and constituents and, you know, do the casework like you're saying.

Linda Lee

So are there partnerships like that?

Linda Lee

And also how many different languages are you assisting them in?

Julie Walpert

We are always looking for partners.

Julie Walpert

This is a collaborative effort.

Julie Walpert

And so, yes, we do.

Julie Walpert

And as far as languages, we actually have a language line that assists us with our...

Linda Lee

The city language line?

Linda Lee

Okay, because sometimes that's questionable, I'm not going to lie.

Linda Lee

But yes, okay.

Linda Lee

I mean, I will admit it is better to have some sort of assistance than none.

Linda Lee

But I would really encourage, especially there's a lot of culturally competent language proficient nonprofits out there as well.

Linda Lee

So I know that they are doing this work on the ground.

Linda Lee

And so it'd be great to see the partnerships there.
