Alderson presents CD2 statistics: low open space ratio and 26,000 unserved residents

New York City Council · Jul 22, 2026 · starts 0:09:31 · 34 sec

Alderson presents a map showing unserved pink areas in CD2, noting the district is very dense with a population increase over 20 years. The open space ratio is 0.38, one of the lowest in the city, with about 26,000 residents not within walking distance of a park.

Colleen Alderson

This is just some basics about Queens Community District 2.

Colleen Alderson

The pink areas are those unserved areas in the district.

Colleen Alderson

It's a very dense community district, as you're aware, and we know that the population has greatly increased over the past 20 years or so.

Colleen Alderson

There's a very little open space.

Colleen Alderson

The open space ratio is 0.38.

Colleen Alderson

It's one of the lowest ones we see across the city.

Colleen Alderson

And again, there are about 26,000 residents that are not in walking distance of a park, so they don't get to realize all the benefits that I spoke about at the beginning.
