Q&A

Marte asks about plan if few sites acquired within 10-year window

New York City Council · Jul 22, 2026 · starts 0:13:34 · 1 min 6 sec

Marte asks what happens if few sites are acquired within 10 years. Alderson says the city would need to file a new ULURP application to refresh sites, and notes other opportunities like a potential new school with a schoolyard from the LIC rezoning could also help.

Christopher Marte

I also want to note that we've been joined by Councilmember Juan, who's online as well.

Christopher Marte

If for some reason very few selected sites are able to be acquired within 10 years, is there a plan to

Christopher Marte

continue to extend potentially the amount of years for new site selections, or what's your plan and what have you done in the past?

Colleen Alderson

Well, we know with our engagement with the community board that they're, you know, very interested in seeing new public open space.

Colleen Alderson

We would have to do a new ULERP application and working with city planning.

Colleen Alderson

We could refresh the sites, look for new opportunities.

Colleen Alderson

You know, meanwhile, you know, perhaps other opportunities may come to fruition.

Colleen Alderson

We know with the Long Island City rezoning, there's a possibility of a new school with the schoolyard that could be open to the community.

Colleen Alderson

So there's things that might also happen in the background.

Colleen Alderson

But yeah, we would have to do another ULERP application.

Colleen Alderson

We would consider doing that, you know, if there's still an outstanding need in the district.
