Williams asks about timeline before engaging external collection
Williams asks how long DOF uses in-house resources before engaging outside agencies, marshals, or the sheriff's office. Deputy Commissioner Hill explains the account executive unit works debt for 30-60 days before referring to outside collection agencies or legal for execution.
Just back to the questions about whether or not you have sufficient staff.
On average, how long does...
DOF tried to use your in-house resources to collect the debt before engaging external entities, whether it be outside agencies, marshal, or sheriff's office.
So how long?
Before you...
Engage in the outside.
Deputy Commissioner?
Okay, so the debt cycles through 30 to 60 days, starting at 4.
Sorry, can you get the mic closer to you?
Thank you very much.
Can you hear me now?
So it's better?
Okay.
So our account executive unit gets the debt, and it cycles through 30 to 60 days.
It's 30 to 60 days because within that first 30 days, if we've made contact with the...
Taxpayer or the individual and we'll develop a relationship to get payment and get the information, we'll keep working with them.
If we haven't made contact within that 30, 60 days, it will either move to an outside collection agency or we'll send it to legal for execution.
I'd like to acknowledge that we've been joined by Council Members Marte, Maloney, and Ressler, and Felice and Mealy on Zoom.
