Virginia Maloney

Thank you, Majority Leader.

Virginia Maloney

Today I'm introducing three bills focused on protecting the health and safety of New Yorkers.

Virginia Maloney

Following the Legionnaires outbreak that impacted my district and claimed seven lives, I'm introducing legislation to strengthen cooling tower cleaning requirements to three times a year with one of those cleanings required in June or July

Virginia Maloney

when we know the city regularly experiences temperatures of 90 degrees or higher and the risk is highest.

Virginia Maloney

Second, requiring the Department of Health to issue public service announcements during Legionnaires outbreaks similar to those we had during COVID.

Virginia Maloney

So New Yorkers have clear information about symptoms, prevention, and treatment.

Virginia Maloney

And lastly, around e-bikes, e-bike accidents are up 28% compared to last year.

Virginia Maloney

We need to act now to protect pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.

Virginia Maloney

And I look forward to the council's hearing in September and I'm glad to be part of that legislative package to improve prevention awareness.

Virginia Maloney

and public safety across our city.

Virginia Maloney

And lastly, as our summer comes to a close, I want to recognize the Team Maloney interns, including some of those who are here today.
