Council Member Narcisse on Haitian community TPS crisis

Thank you, Majority.

Today, I just want to let everyone know that what's going on with the Haitian community

Please don't ignore what's going on right now because the world turned and things happen.

The Haitian community, all I can say for them to stay strong.

I'm not worried about them really to be strong because they've been through it.

They have seen it.

They read the books.

But for all my colleagues, everyone that support the Haitian community,

So please know that they are going to a tough time in the city of New York.

And I have to start by saying thank you to Madam Speaker and, of course, the mayor that's talking about it, understanding that we cannot ignore what's going on around us.

And there is one hope that's staying still that opened our head that we can do something about it is S-4814.

That's in the Senate right now.

The House did their part.

I want to know from our perspective how the best way we can help the community that's suffering.

They are suffering for real right in our backyard as well.

And I'm going to continue saying thank you to everyone that understands what's going on when it comes to folks in...

In the United States of America.

Sometimes it's not only for the immigration, immigration reform, let me tell you honestly, yes, you can do it, but those folks were here legally, they were invited.

Yes, I'm hearing a lot of people say, oh, well, it's supposed to be temporarily, but honestly, there's a lot of things in our lives that's supposed to be temporarily, but still with us, including all the advantages that we're taking from social

and Medicare and all of that.

So having said that,

We cannot ignore folks that are suffering, children that are separating from their families.

hang over our head for decades to come.

So we have to be part of it.
