Chair Ung Q&A: Chokshi on annual reporting and translating data to action
Chokshi elaborates on the need to move from data to action, identifying cardiovascular disease, cancer, severe mental illness, and infectious diseases like hepatitis C and HIV as areas requiring targeted interventions for marginalized communities.
Was there some, you know, in this annual report, could you further just elaborate on that and what else we can do?
Certainly.
I think that one of the things that is most important with respect to what has to be done going forward is for us to take the data
that the department is excellent at producing and moving from data to action.
For us to identify the most concrete ways for whether it's physical health or mental health or substance use,
ways for us to take that data and translate it into interventions that can close those gaps.
So, for example, I think we have to continue to look at ways in which cardiovascular disease, cancer,
severe mental illness, and infectious diseases like hepatitis C and HIV are born particularly by
racial minorities and other New Yorkers who are marginalized.
There are specific interventions that we can continue to elaborate to be able to meet those challenges.
Thank you.
