We will now move on to the mayor's nominee for the Board of Health, pursuant to Section 31 and 553 of the Charter, and by the letter dated August 7,
2026, the mayor requested the advice and consent of the council regarding the appointment of Dr.
Dave Chokshi to the New York City Board of Health.
The appointment will expire on May 31, 2030.
The primary function of the Board of Health is to legislate and oversee the New York City's health code, which encompasses the rules governing all matters and subjects within the jurisdiction of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
The department jurisdiction is among the most extensive and varied of all the city agencies and includes such diverse disciplines as communicable diseases, environmental health services,
radiological health, food safety, veterinarian affairs, water quality, pest control, and vital statistics, and the Office of Chief Medical Examiner.
The board's health 11 members serve six years term without pay and cannot be dismissed without cause.
