CM Krishnan Q&A: Mangin on bringing displacement and engagement values to BSA leadership
Krishnan asks whether Mangin sees combating displacement, engaging communities, and planning holistically as central to his BSA leadership. Mangin confirms yes, pointing to the BSA Fast Track's potential for publicly sponsored affordable housing in underserved areas as a key opportunity.
And you do see your role as in BSA
you know, the values that we're talking about today, which you subscribe to as well, combating displacement, engaging communities, planning holistically, you do see those values as
important and having a role, a central role in your leadership of BSA.
In other words, BSA, I don't think, I don't feel it should be this way, but is a,
There's sometimes a view, I think it has been this way in the past, where BSA is sort of just a separate entity altogether from the larger vision we have around housing.
And so it would be a marked...
positive shift forward to have leadership at BSA that also sees that BSA is not just an entity that stamps variances and reviews non-zoning or
extra zoning applications, but that it's led from a point of values of combating displacement, of engaging communities, of planning holistically.
Do you see, in your leadership of BSA, bringing those values into the leadership of the agency?
Thank you for the question.
Yes, I do.
I mean, you may see it less in the context of individual applications and see it more in terms of agenda setting.
As I mentioned, very excited about the potential for the BSA fast track.
To create the types of projects that are, you know, almost universally acknowledged to be good, publicly sponsored affordable housing projects in
parts of the city that may not have seen as many in recent decades.
And, you know, the BSA has the ability now to save those projects a lot of time and a lot of money that can be used to create more housing or lower AMIs or otherwise tailor projects for their communities.
I think there's a lot of potential there.
Thank you for your answers.
Thank you, Chair.
Thank you.
Now I'm going to pass it on to Minority Leader Carr.
