Public: Brendan Cheney (NY Housing Conference) supports Mangin with 47-organization letter
Cheney, representing the NY Housing Conference, testifies in support and submits a letter signed by 47 housing organizations. He calls Mangin highly qualified, noting his attorney training, land use expertise, and experience with public approvals are precisely what BSA needs, and that his testimony today demonstrates his temperament and patience.
Good afternoon.
My name is Brendan Cheney.
I'm Director of Policy and Operations at the New York Housing Conference.
Thank you for the opportunity to testify.
New York Housing Conference is a nonprofit affordable housing policy and advocacy organization.
As a broad-based coalition, our mission is to advance city, state, and federal policies and funding to support the development and preservation of decent and affordable housing for all New Yorkers.
We are testifying today in support of the nomination of John Mangin as the chair of the Board of Standards and Appeals.
He is highly qualified for the position, and we're excited for him to bring his expertise and experience to the role to help address the housing crisis.
I'll summarize a little bit just in the interest of time.
John Mangin's training as an attorney, expertise in land use and planning, and experience with the administration of applications for public approvals are precisely the type of background needed for the leader of the BSA.
As a career public servant who recognizes the severe affordability implications of our housing supply crisis, his appointment is particularly suited to the current crisis and his work has consistently displayed a commitment to the integrity and value.
Of the role of government.
And I think just in seeing his testimony today, I think you can see that he has the temperament and the patience for the role as well.
So therefore, as the council performs its advice and consent on John Mangin's nomination, we strongly urge it to approve his appointment.
You'll also see that included with our testimony is a letter that we've included that's got...
signatures from 47 other housing organizations also supporting John Mangin's nomination.
Thank you, and I'm happy to answer any questions.
Thank you all for your testimony today.
You're all excused.
I'm going to call up the next set of panelists, and with that, I'm going to go on to the Zoom panelists.
First, we have former council member Dan Garanek, Jeffrey Thomas, Mulan Mehta, and Luke Levenway.
Apologies.
I'm going to go to Zoom.
You'll come back to in-person.
So it's just one panel on Zoom, and then we'll come back in person.
I'm going to ask the panelists on Zoom to unmute themselves.
Please.
Yes, please go first.
You may begin.
