Public (Zoom): Jack supports Mangin, citing 2018 paper on ethnic enclaves
Jack, a Ridgewood resident, points to Mangin's 2018 paper 'Ethnic Enclaves and the Zoning Game' as demonstrating his familiarity with local constituencies and nuanced relationships to land use policy, which he says should allay concerns about his commitment to local control.
Can you hear me?
Yes.
My name is Jack.
I'm a resident of Ridgewood.
And I would echo the points made by other community members about John Mangin's competence and qualifications.
And Dan's point about the importance of balancing local control with the need, the urgent need to build housing for the entire city.
That said, I think that in a housing crisis that is rapidly escalating, I think we really need someone that does have the granular situational local awareness that John Manchin does have.
Council members have referred to Manchin's 2014 paper, The New Exclusionary Zoning.
But I would point to a different 2018 paper of his called Ethnic Enclaves and the Zoning Game
that really demonstrates his intimate familiarity and interest in many different local constituencies and their unique nuanced relationships to land use policy.
I think it goes...
I think it goes a lot to allay the concerns that many council members have had about John Manchin's priority with local control.
John understands the need to build 700,000 units of good
affordable housing in the next 10 years, and I urge the City Council to confirm him.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Can the next panelist go?
You may begin.
Are there other panelists on the Zoom panel?
