Kristen Carey-Ankuda on Haven Plaza Legionnaires and need for free testing
Haven Plaza resident Kristen Carey-Ankuda describes ongoing Legionnaires issues since May, reports a neighbor's death on her floor, and calls for free testing. She complains that Bellevue charged $700 for Legionnaires testing and that Lower East Side residents received less attention.
Hello, my name is Kristen Carey-Ankuda.
Thank you so much for this time.
Thank you so much for saying what you just said, because that is precisely what I wanted to bring to light.
I will bullet point this.
I didn't know that this was going to happen.
I came last minute and I'm writing on an envelope.
Most importantly, maybe please have some free testing.
So I'm Kristen Carey and could I live at 2 Haven Plaza, apartment 10H, 10009.
I kind of was a little bit of a blissful,
whistle blower to New York One saying, why are they taking care of Upper East Side and not Lower East Side?
Also, too, I will speak for the tenants.
I'm having a little bit of a difficulty with the president of the tenant association.
Everything that you just said is 100% exactly what I'm asking for, some testing.
Bellevue has put $700.
Bills to people that have gone there to get the Legionnaires testing.
I'd like to set up some testing for everybody because as you know, there's been multiple, anyhow, you heard everything.
It's in her pipes.
We also have cooling towers below.
That's how we have central air within the Haven Plaza.
There are five Haven Plaza buildings.
So the cooling towers, absolutely.
But it's in our pipes.
We have roaches coming out of them now, mice coming out of them now.
We have an amazing plumbing company from Howard Beach that is doing all of this.
But what are the chemicals that are being used?
They just said that they're going to get, on September 1st, so it is Wednesday the 2nd, they said September 1st that they were going to get the final, finally, not final, finally we got equipment to go forward with the remediation.
It's been since May.
Two people, actually, Silvio died on my floor.
I would just love to be a part of helping with getting free testing
and really figuring out what are the chemicals that are being used, what does remediation mean, how do we proceed with this process, instead of just being angry that Upper East Side is being taken care of because they're paying more money for rent and this is for low income
and for...
Have you spoken to your council member?
I'm very, very close speaking with Harvey, which I've been a little bit ignored, but I think that that will surpass and it will be great.
I'll have a conversation with him as well.
Thank you.
Also, Department of Health, one thing I'd really, really love to bring up, please, if I may, Con Edison.
There's nothing that they are running the pipe system.
Just so you know, that's a state agency.
So we can't there's nothing I can do with that.
But how does that work?
Talk to talk to your council member.
I'll mention it.
Yes.
Yes.
He can coordinate all that.
Thank you.
Wonderful.
Thank you so much for your time.
Thank you.
Madam, thank you.
Thank you, everybody.
Thank you very much for your time.
And everybody, it all makes sense now.
Okay, next.
Heaven.
Berchain?
Berhan, sorry.
And Kim Smith.
You go first.
