Richard Tenko (3435 Giles Place tenant) on landlord neglect and COPA urgency
Tenko, a 64-year Bronx resident, describes 16 years of inconsistent heat, broken elevators, and leaks under owner Ved Park Cash, who was named one of the worst landlords. He states that if COPA and Safer Homes had been in place earlier, his building might not have ended up in its current state.
Thank you.
My name is Richard Tenko.
I will start with the end.
If COPA had been in place the last time my building was sold, we might never have ended up in the hands of Vant Park Cash.
If safer homes had been in place, perhaps my building could not have been taken from him a long time ago and we wouldn't be here.
I would not be here, that's for sure.
Thank you for your time.
I urge you to pass both of these bills as soon as yesterday.
The name is Richard Tanko.
I have lived in the Bronx for the last 64 years, the last 26 years at 3435 Giles Place in the Bronx.
The building has been owned by Mr.
Vet Park Cash, I believe, since 2010.
That's the reason I am here.
Under the ownership of Mr.
Vett Parkash, the expected services of heat during the fall, winter, and spring and a working elevator have been inconsistent.
During the heavy rains, it leaks inside the apartments around the windows facing east.
It also leaks in the lobby and the entrance of the lobby.
Photos and videos of these conditions are available.
When Parkes took ownership of 3435 Giles Place, it was understood that whatever shortcomings had taken place with the building, it would be addressed.
Pointing, elevator, heat.
16 years later, under his ownership, the heat elevator and leaks continued.
When Parkes took over, we had no idea he had been named one of the top 10 worst landlords in New York City and number one in the Bronx.
Since we had no idea, we gave her the benefit of the doubt and did not form a tenant association.
That was a huge mistake and one we have since corrected.
A tenant in the building was informed that 3435 was in foreclosure.
When ownership and management were asked, they all denied this and refused to prove it.
To provide any information.
Our Bronx, a community agency, began to support the 3435 Tenant Association, and I'll leave it as that because, yeah, but you more or less could have an idea what took place.
Thank you so much.
