Felder questions response to April data privacy letter and Office of Algorithmic Accountability
Felder asks about an April 28 letter on data privacy, facial recognition, and biometric data governance that hasn't been answered. Gelobter says it's under review. Felder also asks about Local Law 188 of 2025 establishing the Office of Algorithmic Accountability; Gelobter says six lines were funded in the FY27 budget, hiring is underway, and analyses are due by end of March.
Obviously, we'll get more into NextGen later on.
One final question from me.
We sent a letter, the committee sent a letter on April 28th with a list of questions related to New York City data privacy and practices, and today's September 9th.
Do you know,
when we should anticipate a response.
The letter was around data privacy, facial recognition, biometric data, and biometric data governance.
Thank you for the question.
You want me to say probably soon?
It's under review.
Okay.
All right.
We always leave with homework.
Okay.
This last question, we just wanted to ask on behalf of Councilmember Gutierrez.
In the last session, as you know, we passed Local Law 188 of 2025, establishing the Office of Algorithmic Accountability.
The office would be responsible for working with city agencies to promote transparency and accountability.
Where are you in the process?
And how many people will be working in this new office under OTI?
Thank you for the question.
The fiscal year 27 budget included, I believe it was six lines specifically assigned to the Office of Algorithmic Accountability.
And we are in the process of, in the hiring phase, and defining how the office is going to be set up, as well as actually sourcing candidates that we can hire so that we can
We have to deliver something as part of that office, some analyses by the end of March.
So we are targeting that milestone.
Okay.
And sorry, I keep saying last question, but there's one more.
