Williams discusses new AI report and procurement oversight concerns
Williams discusses his office's new report calling for responsible AI use, ongoing public engagement, and AI-specific procurement standards to prevent problematic contracts like digital bathroom passes and voice recognition apps for young children.
In relation to this, my office released a new report yesterday calling for responsible use of AI with one of the foremost recommendations being ongoing engagement with the public on the topic of artificial intelligence.
I also call for greater oversight of the kinds of contracts the city signs with vendors by creating AI-specific standards for procurement.
We believe greater scrutiny on this front will prevent concerning and potentially problematic contracts like this that have caused alarm in recent weeks, including the use of digital bathroom passes in schools and voice recognition application for our youngest kids.
The New Technology in Schools Coalition composed of elected officials, parent leaders, educators, and other experts will serve a critical role in examining the impact of those new screen time and artificial intelligence policies.
And expanding on this existing foundation of dialogue.
