Councilmember Louis questions DSNY on bulk pickup promotion
Louis asks whether DSNY plans to promote bulk pickup services, noting most homeowners in her district are unaware. Anderson agrees it's a great idea and offers to work with her office on an education campaign, noting some bulk education was done during the composting rollout.
And then I'm just going to turn it over to Councilmember Lewis.
Thank you, Chair.
I appreciate it.
And thank you, Commissioner, to you and your team for being here.
Just building on some of the questions that Councilmember Thomas Henry had, there's just one quick question.
I wanted to know, is DSNY planning to promote and share information about bulk pickup?
I think most homeowners, particularly in my district, they don't know about bulk pickup unless they get, like, an email from my office or they come to a community board meeting.
And, you know, that's limited on the amount of people that come to those meetings.
I wonder if the agency is thinking about, like, a mass promotion and marketing about bulk pickups.
Maybe that could diminish some of the numbers.
Yeah, I think that's a great idea.
We did quite a bit of education around bulk collection as part of the rollout of our composting program because the set out days for some New Yorkers did change as we rolled out that program
because we're using a dual bin truck to collect the compostable material and trash side by side.
So we ask that folks set out their bulk material on the non-recyclable.
Of the week, but we certainly can work with your office on an education campaign around bulk collection.
That's a great idea.
That would be super helpful.
