Louis questions Anderson on removed composting sites in her district
Louis asks about pilot composting sites removed from Flatbush Junction and East Flatbush in January, requesting help restoring or expanding composting. Anderson offers to work with her and reiterates universal curbside composting is available citywide.
My last question, we had a pilot composting site in my district that the district really enjoyed, but as of January of this year, those sites were removed.
We had it for about two years and really enjoyed having those sites at the Flatbush Junction.
We had another one that was in East Flatbush.
And those sites were removed.
And I wanted to know if there was any way I could work with the agency to either get those sites back or if there was any other programs that the agency provides to see if we could actually expand composting in our district.
As we're having this conversation about safe disposals and waste management, it would be great to see if we could get like an actual program in the district.
Yeah, I think we'd be happy to work with you on those composting sites.
I will just reiterate, we have a...
Universal curbside composting program.
So we pick up compostable material from every single residential building in New York City at least once a week.
So I think that's the first option that we'd encourage people to use, but we'll reach out and have a conversation around how we can increase participation in your district.
Thank you so much, Commissioner.
Thank you so much, Councilman Lewis.
