Sanchez questions Anderson on overnight street cleaning and Sunday staffing
Sanchez asks about late-night and early-morning street cleaning frequency. Anderson says overnight litter basket service is effective, but Sunday coverage is lower because it requires double-time overtime outside the regular Monday-Saturday work week.
Does the department conduct any late night or early morning street cleaning or litter basket servicing?
What is the frequency of these services and at what dates and times of the week?
I know some of this because my street cleaning is from 12 to 3 a.m.
Yes, we do quite a lot of overnight litter basket service because, one, it's the best time for us to sort of move around the city and get the work done quickly.
Two, because we can sort of, you know, come through after the last of the, you know, the...
Bar goers go home for the evening and clean things up before people start to go to work or school in the morning.
So we find that a really effective time to do so.
I would say probably the one time that is the most challenge for us is late Saturday night into Sunday morning, just because Monday through Saturday are regular work days for us.
Sunday is not a regular work day.
So any work that we do on Sundays is double time overtime and has to be sort of pulled out of a separate pot of resources.
And so we do have a slightly lower number of resources on that 12 to 8 shift Sunday than we would on the rest of the week.
I'm curious about that.
Is there, so just a standard work week for every sanitation employee, even though we have to clean the streets seven days a week, is Monday through Friday?
Monday through Saturday.
Monday through Saturday.
Okay.
Interesting.
