Sanchez questions Gajwani on barge vs truck transport and air pollution mitigation
Sanchez asks about barge transport volumes, potential truck traffic, air pollution impacts, and mitigation for high asthma rates in his district. Gajwani estimates possibly 15 trucks/day at full capacity, discusses alternatives like electric or CNG trucks, and notes environmental assessments will be needed.
Will marine and barge transfer be utilized for this purpose?
And, you know.
If so, approximately how much waste are we looking that will be transported to the site via barge each day and how much potentially via truck if we have to use that?
Yeah, so we don't have those details yet, and it's something that we'll definitely, right, we need to figure out first how much material can we actually take in, you know, in theory, and then look at kind of what are the ways to bring it in, and there would need to be, you know, an environmental assessment of how that works as well.
So there's logistics to be considered and then also the environmental assessment.
So, you know, if we are unlucky that we have to be transporting via truck,
I just want to be cognizant and understand approximately how many trucks per day will be transporting organics to be processed at this site.
And with that, what are the projected...
air pollutions and carbon emission ramifications associated with trucking waste to the facility.
And given already, I don't have to tell people the high asthma rates in my district, are any mitigation efforts being considered to address any increase in truck traffic to the site?
So knowing that we receive like eight to 10 trucks a day at the Newtown Creek facility, if we were to actually do the full 400 tons a day at Hunts Point, we might be talking about 15 or so trucks a day.
That's kind of off the top of my head.
It's not an official number.
If we were to move all of it via truck, and I think that there are different alternatives to be considered for trucks, right, as far as like, you know, if it's a short haul, is there a way to electrify the trucks?
Or is there, you know, kind of, could they be CNG instead of, you know, diesel?
Could they use our RNG, right?
Like, are there kind of different ways to do this so that the emissions are kept at a minimum?
Yeah, really appreciate that.
