Sanchez questions Gajwani on bioslurry digestion and Hunts Point contracting plans
Sanchez asks whether Hunts Point will digest engineered bioslurry from Waste Management. Gajwani explains DEP is seeking an owner's advisor for contracting, the market has matured, and they want an integrated partner for both pre-processed food waste delivery and biogas cleanup.
Will this site also be digesting engineered bioslurry produced by waste management?
So we will put this out for a solicitation.
So we actually put out a request for proposals back in the spring for an owner's advisor to help us kind of navigate how we're going to contract the work at Hunts Point for both co-digestion and the...
the gas-to-grid system.
We currently have, as I just, you know, as I mentioned before, we have two contracts at Newtown Creek, and they're good contracts, but they were kind of put together right when the, you know, this industry or this kind of market was very new.
In the ensuing, you know, 14 years or so, the market has really matured, and so we are getting an owner's advisor to make sure that we're kind of making the right decisions for the city, for DEP,
and, you know, kind of leveraging kind of the lessons learned from municipalities across the world that have been doing this type of work.
So it's unclear whether it would be a partnership, ultimately be a partnership with waste management or another partner, but we are anticipating that we would like to have an integrated partner that does both, that brings us the pre-processed food waste, as
waste management calls it, engineered bioslurry, but it's something of that ilk that meets our specifications for treatment, and then would also be able to clean up the biogas for beneficial use.
