Feliz asks about remaining challenges on shootings and murders
Feliz asks about remaining challenges on shootings and murders. Hout explains the department's all-department approach using mobile field forces of ~40 officers that can be rapidly deployed to shooting hotspots.
Oh, sorry.
No, go ahead.
You could finish if you...
What would you say are some of the challenges that we continue to face when it comes to shootings and murders?
We've made progress.
What are some of the challenges that prevent us from taking that progress even further, if any?
So when we look at shootings, I want to just start in the Bronx.
When we look at the Bronx as a whole,
where we do see shootings and homicides are down in the Bronx leading the major crime and decline, anytime there's a shooting in the Bronx or any patrol borough, we follow the data.
We take an all department approach, looking to see where we can increase deployment and add resources.
And we're very nimble on how we do that.
You know, if we need to take extra resources and move them, we'll use a mobile field force.
And a mobile field force, just to explain what that is, it's about 40 police officers, five sergeants, two lieutenants, and a captain.
And they can be moved into any area that we need, and they can be placed where we need them.
That's on top of already increased deployment.
