Hout details current murder/shooting stats and Bronx patrol borough split
Hout details current record-low murder (173, down 24%) and shooting numbers, highlights Bronx leading the city in crime reduction at 11.9%, and explains the creation of two patrol boroughs in the Bronx for more resources and oversight.
So what we've done, our success is not by accident.
It's data-driven.
It's based on precision policing and deployment and making changes rapidly when we need to make them.
So just looking at murders, we'll start with that.
Year to date, we have read 173 murders.
That's the lowest in the CompStat era.
That's down 24%.
Domestic violence murders are down 22%.
That's tied for the lowest with 2007.
The borough of Manhattan only saw two murders in August and the fewest murders year to date with 19.
There was zero housing murders in August.
That's only occurred one other time in 2024.
So with shootings and shooting victims, the city has historic lows.
In August and year to date with shooting incidents and shooting victims.
442 shooting incidents, that's the lowest in the CompSAT history.
538 shooting victims year to date, that's the lowest in the CompSAT history.
The borough of Brooklyn and the borough of Queens are the lowest shooting victims on record.
Just looking at overall crime in the city, we're down 6.2%.
That's down 5,000 fewer index crimes.
We're down in five of the seven categories.
The Bronx.
The Bronx is leading the way.
Down 11.9%.
That's almost 2,500 crimes.
Bronx South is down 16.3%.
Bronx North is down 7.3%.
So a major success.
And what we've done in the Bronx is we've created two patrol boroughs.
What that means, more cops, more specialty units, more resources, more executive leadership and oversight.
And it's delivering on equity.
The borough of Brooklyn, the borough of Manhattan, and the borough of Queens all have two patrol boroughs.
Now it's time for the Bronx to get their fair share and make the neighborhood safer up in the Bronx.
And we look at the results in the Bronx, we've had some positive results on our investment.
The Bronx as a whole is leading the entire city in major crime decline.
In Bronx North,
We've seen declines in major crime overall, in auto theft, in grand larceny, in robberies, and in burglaries.
So I want to highlight the success in the Bronx North.
So what do we...
