Gerber on interconnected strategies and breaking down silos under Commissioner Tisch
Gerber emphasizes that NYPD strategies are interconnected—CompStat, deployment, summer zones, crew takedowns, and pattern analysis all work together. He credits Commissioner Tisch with breaking down silos between detective, patrol, intel, and crime control units.
And Chair, I think an important point, you were asking about strategies.
I think the strategies intersect, right?
They're interconnected, and that's really important.
So we talk about deployment, right?
Precision deployment.
We talk about the summer zones.
We talk about CompStat as a means of holding commanders accountable.
You know, we talk about the looking at robbery patterns and burglary patterns.
We talk about the crew takedowns, right?
These things, part of what's so important is these things are not siloed, right?
It's, you know, through CompStat, looking at data, making sure that decisions are data-driven when it comes to deployment.
Adjusting the summer violence zones as necessary in light of that data, seeing how the crew activity and crew takedowns are going to intersect with what we're seeing, whether in the summer violence zones or otherwise.
There are these different strategies, yes, but the point is that they're all interconnected.
And actually, I think a really important thing also is
And I think this is something that we've made a lot of progress on.
particularly under Commissioner Tisch, is that things not be siloed.
Not be siloed, right?
It's not the detective bureau over here and patrol over there and intel over there.
No, and crime control over there.
No, it's everything interconnected, working and breaking down any of those silos because it's one team working towards one goal.
