PA Williams on response time data and crime data revision updates
Williams asks whether NYPD reports when complainants are gone upon police arrival and whether crime data is updated after audits. Gerber says they'll try to pull data on complainant absence and confirms crime numbers are always updated with latest classifications.
If I could just ask one more question.
I appreciate that.
I had one question.
I know that response times have become delayed.
I experienced it myself.
I also sometimes do that delay.
Complaintants are gone when law enforcement comes.
I just want to know if we have any numbers on times that police may have arrived and the complaint wasn't there because that wouldn't show up.
And also, in my report, I had a kind of question of when you give the numbers and there's an audit and there's a change, are those reports?
Changed after.
Yeah, so sure.
So first on the question about, you know, when you have a police response and the complainant is no longer there, you know, I just don't know if we have data on that.
If we do, we will.
provide it to you.
We don't have it here.
I have to look at sort of how we track that.
But certainly if we can pull that data, we will provide it to your office.
With regard to the crime data.
So when a crime gets reclassified, the numbers get updated.
Right, so what we're putting out, however we're putting out, whether it's Comstat 2.0 online, when we're providing
our monthly data to the state, which goes to the feds as well, when we're putting out the monthly press releases, whatever form we're doing this,
We're always using the latest numbers that we have, reflecting, as you know, changes that happen in crime classification in the normal course.
And so, yes, the numbers do reflect that.
Thank you.
And thank you, Mr.
Chair.
New Yorkers don't feel as safe as we actually are, and we've got to figure out why that is, and we've got to make sure they can.
Have faith in the numbers that are being pushed out there.
So I really appreciate this hearing.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you so much, public advocate.
I want to recognize Councilmember Murano.
And next, we'll hear from Councilmember Ariola.
