PA Williams pushes NYPD to lead collaborative efforts and asks about response times
Williams pushes NYPD to proactively lead collaborative conversations with other agencies, noting the same neighborhoods need both law enforcement and social services. She urges sharing CompStat data with other agencies and asks about response time delays where complainants leave before police arrive.
So, again, running out, so I'm going to push a little bit.
But $60 billion in NYPD, right, has a very large voice in the public safety space.
So being pushed, or this being pushed by NYPD, I think would be helpful.
I do want to just push the Mumdani administration as a whole to force these conversations to occur that should have happened very naturally.
I would say not just in the takedowns, but when a shooting occurs, when North Bronx
sees a type of violence increase that we've seen, what are the conversations that are happening between PD and Office of Community Safety before the takedown so that all the resources are going there?
And I've been saying this for I don't know how long.
It's the same map.
So wherever we're sending the law enforcement, we could be sending so many other resources, and we should be doing it collaboratively.
I've seen this happen in other...
the counties and other cities that actually are working.
The best places I've seen them are where there is not tension between those things, not tension between the top departments, and folks are working collaboratively.
I'm not sure that we've erased that tension, so I'm hoping we can continue to do that.
I'm not sure that we're sharing in CompStat meetings with other agencies that we should be.
So I just want to push for this collaborative effort because the more we keep asking or relying on PD, the more we're going to have the type of issues that we don't want to see here and everybody wants us to be safe.
So my message is, please, there are things that we've been talking for so long.
This administration has done a lot, and I'm very happy about that.
But there's collaborations and pushed conversations that we should be having that we're not.
