Nelson closing remarks: gratitude and call to action
Nelson delivers closing remarks, thanking Anthony for sharing his story, thanking the council for moving recognition forward, and acknowledging Blue Star, Gold Star, Silver Star, and White Star families. She emphasizes that recognition must lead to lasting action and accessible services.
Please.
I just want to say something.
I know you said.
A lot of people, some may not know me, but it didn't happen overnight for me.
It was 11 years it took.
11 years.
But the focus was to focus on my daughter, to make sure she elevated.
The focus was to keep the promise to Mario that we made amongst each other.
If something happened to him, please make sure you do what you got to do.
To take care of our child.
that I did.
I wasn't, it was no space to make excuses.
For me, that's how I feel.
So when you say that, it's, and when Anthony stated what he said, it's, it's me.
Holding my relationship with God and turning my pain into a purpose is giving me the fuel to do what needs to be done.
Because the strength is there.
I had to learn how to utilize it.
And it's having great people in my circle to support me with the work that's being done.
And DBS.
Was DVS has been the one to really bring me out of that bubble and box that I was in from when the former commissioner, James Hendon, was in and now meeting with you and looking forward to connect with everyone else to make that happen.
But I want to say to you guys, as I.
End off.
Thank you, Anthony, for sharing your heart and honoring Adam's memory with us today.
Your words remind us why this recognition matters and why families must have the opportunity to speak for themselves.
To the council, thank you for hearing our voices and moving this recognition forward.
I hope we build on this movement by listening to families, responding to their concerns, and making support easier to access.
To our White Star families, Silver Star families, and Gold Star families,
families and veterans, you
Even our Blue Star families, because we actually have a Blue Star family sitting in here.
You know, you deserve to be seen, heard, honored, and supported.
You are not alone.
May today's recognition lead to lasting action for the families who needs us.
Thank you for your time in this.
opportunity.
Can I put some bullet points with what DBS spoke about?
You know, the best way to get those on the record is to either email it or to give it to the sergeant at arms, and we'll make sure it's part of the record of this hearing, and it's recorded in your testimony going forward.
Dr.
Nelson, thank you for your daughter's service.
Thank you for your husband's service.
Thank you most of all for the service you've continued to provide a whole lot of families and a whole lot of New Yorkers.
Mr.
Passaro, thank you for your son's service and the service you're providing as well.
Thank you both for being here.
Thank you.
Thank you.
