Hanif asks about enrollment decline factors
Hanif asks whether SCRIE and DRIE enrollment declines have different causes, and Shear attributes declines primarily to COVID-related deaths and people moving out of the city, noting a slight 0.8% enrollment increase in 2024.
Because as I think was mentioned, screen enrollment fell from 63,000 in 2019 to 56,665 in 2024.
Is the decline in screen enrollment due to different factors compared to the decline in DRE enrollment?
And if they are different, what are the factors and what does this mean for outreach and enrollment efforts?
Yes, we believe that, or we don't have,
sufficient information to know all of the details behind the changes in enrollment that you and the other chairs have mentioned.
We do know that tragically during the pandemic, many senior citizens
fell seriously ill or passed away due to COVID, and that many New Yorkers did move out of the city.
And we believe that these external factors have largely determined the decline in enrollment.
We're heartened by the fact that enrollment did increase, even though it was under 1%, but did increase this past year.
Okay.
Yeah, and I'm just wondering if there are other things factoring into that.
