Michelle Hall testifies on Rochdale Village Mitchell-Lama increases
Michelle Hall of Rochdale Village, a Mitchell-Lama development, reports a 31.2% maintenance increase and $17.6 million unpaid water bill, urging passage of Intro 978 to help vulnerable senior and disabled cooperators facing displacement and to reduce eviction costs and empty apartments.
Good afternoon.
My name is Michelle Hall and I reside in Rochdale Village.
Since Rochdale Village is a Mitchell Lama development, there are cooperators who already receive SCRI and DRI.
We are under the supervision of DHCR.
I urge all of the New York City Council members to adopt the SCRI and DRI household income increase to $75,000.
This would enact a New York State to authorize expansion laws locally.
There are thousands of vulnerable Mitchell Lama seniors and those who are disabled cooperators that need an income increase to force SCRI and jury.
Rochdale Village had a maintenance increase of 31.2%.
This is challenging increase, in my opinion, is burdensome to many cooperators who are on a fixed income.
Why such a steep increase?
Rochdale Village has many unpaid bills, such as the New York City water bill.
The water bill ballooned up to $17.6 million.
Rochdale Village also owes vendors who supposedly completed their contract assignments.
Some seniors are afraid of displacement.
This intro 978 would help lower the cost of eviction and empty apartments.
By voting yes,
on Intro 978 would allow those seniors who were denied before because they were slightly over the $50,000 income level.
I say again, vote yes for Intro 978.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you, everyone, for testifying.
And thank you guys for supporting all the legislation.
