Q&A

Zhuang asks about language access and culturally relevant outreach

New York City Council · Sep 18, 2026 · starts 0:51:57 · 1 min 1 sec

Zhuang asks about language services at centers, and Murray explains centers are required to provide culturally and linguistically relevant services with staff speaking community languages including Spanish and Chinese.

Susan Zhuang

So what's the language you provide?

Susan Zhuang

Do you have information?

Ryan Murray

Sure.

Ryan Murray

So at our centers, as you know, we require that there is not just language, but cultural relevance in our case management programs as well.

Ryan Murray

The individuals who are there speak the languages of the community.

Ryan Murray

So whether it's in English or they're working in multiple languages, Spanish, Chinese, and so on, that is a requirement for those programs.

Susan Zhuang

Sorry, if they don't come to the center, how did you guys do the outreach?

Ryan Murray

Again, so our team will disseminate information to our older adult center teams, whether it's we have monthly meetings with our directors in the program so that those are relevant.

Ryan Murray

And if folks are part of the center or they're part of our case management program, that is where we make sure we are providing the hands-on support to complete those applications.
