Council Member Joseph asks about written implementation plan and steering committee
Joseph asks if DOE has a written implementation plan and when it will be released publicly. Giunta describes a cross-office core team and steering committee, and Katie Hansen says the steering committee has about 20 members including superintendents and representatives from central offices.
And we'll start with Councilmember Joseph.
Thank you, Chair.
I know I have five minutes, so I'm going to ask a series of questions.
Beyond creating the senior supervising superintendent position, does DOE have a written implementation plan, and when will it be released publicly?
Thank you.
Yes, we have our supervising superintendent here.
Some structures that we have stood up centrally is a core team, which is widely represented here by the various offices under the division of the first deputy chancellor that are influencing and delivering this work from Dr.
Chang to Office of Student Pathways.
It is a very heavily seated academic policy, so we have OPE with us today.
Of course, academics and instruction as well.
This is a beautiful cross-office partnership.
This group has also been leading a steering committee that widens the voice and feedback that we're getting.
How many people are on the steering committee?
How many are on the steering committee?
It's about 20.
We have representatives from the teams that First Deputy Chancellor named, Division of Inclusive and Accessible Learning, our communications team, as well as several of our superintendents.
And we use that to norm on the updates we're getting from the state, make sure we have a shared understanding of the timeline.
And we also use it as a group for thought partnership and developing a strategy around each of these components of the New York Constitution.
