Dinowitz warns against pressure to pass students without rigor
Dinowitz shares concern that without a rigorous replacement for Regents, schools may receive pressure to pass students through credit accrual alone. He says standardized rubrics and norming are critical to maintaining quality across the city.
Okay.
And I just, I have to say it because I remember during COVID when we got pressure to pass kids who never showed up to class.
I remember hearing administrators before COVID.
I remember one administrator said to a teacher, well, I know they didn't do the final project, but can you pass them?
And they promised to do the assignment over the summer.
I know.
One of those is anecdotal, but one of those was like a systemic sort of directive.
And to hear that is good, that the training is happening is good and heartening to hear because that's what rigor looks like.
And maintaining that and making sure that it is normed and that there are standardized rubrics across the city, I think is really critical to making sure not just personal finance, but if that model is used for
other subjects, that's a good start.
Now, I have a ton more questions, but I do want to turn it over to colleagues for their questions.
