Banks presses on HPD inspecting closed tickets, NYCHA self-inspection, and 311 inspections
Banks asks whether NYCHA would allow HPD to inspect closed tickets quarterly and why NYCHA should be the only landlord that inspects itself. Greene says NYCHA is willing to discuss outside inspections and cites HUD, the Federal Monitor, and independent mold analysts, and says he will take back the idea of inspecting 311 complaints.
Would NYCHA object to HPD inspecting a sample of closed tickets each quarter and publishing them?
Publishing what it finds?
Thank you, Chair, for that question.
We're willing to work and talk about anybody to come and check out our buildings.
We want our residents to be safe, and we want to make sure that we're transparent.
Right.
Well, thank you for that.
Given NYCHA's history, why should it be the only landlord in the city that inspects itself?
Thank you, Chair.
I would just say I can't answer that from a policy perspective, but what I will say is we don't only just inspect ourselves.
We do have HUD inspections that are from outside entities.
We also do have the Federal Monitor and the Independent Mold Analysts and other outside entities inspecting.
Well, NIT should be open to inspecting apartments in response to 311 complaints and reporting what it finds.
Thank you, Chair, for that question.
Definitely something I'll take back and speak to the NITRO leadership about.
Has NITRO had any conversations with HPD about creating a process that gets a tenant an inspection and a repair without having to make two trips to housing court?
Thank you, Chair, for that question.
I am not familiar with any communications, but I know that we've been talking with HPD a lot about this new daily data upfeed and this new process that we're engaged in.
Okay.
