Banks asks what NYCHA considers a manageable open work order count; Greene cannot give a number

New York City Council · Sep 22, 2026 · starts 1:45:04 · 1 min 16 sec

Banks asks what NYCHA considers a manageable number of open work orders. Greene says he cannot give a number, notes NYCHA receives about 2.5 million work orders per year, and says the agency is meeting annual demand.

Chris Banks

When it comes to targets for work orders, open work orders,

Chris Banks

What does NYCHA consider a manageable number of open work orders?

Chris Banks

And, yeah, you can answer that question first.

Daniel Greene

What do I consider?

Chris Banks

What does NITRA consider as a manageable number for open work orders?

Daniel Greene

Thank you, Chair, for that question.

Daniel Greene

Interesting question.

Daniel Greene

I think right now we are meeting our annual demand.

Daniel Greene

of the work orders that are coming in.

Daniel Greene

Obviously, we also have some new initiatives that I'm very happy about, particularly the MLRR program that allowed me to hire 47 new trades to target mold and leak work orders over 100 days.

Daniel Greene

I'm also very happy with having programs such as CRI and maintenance cares to prioritize critical repairs.

Daniel Greene

I can't give you a number.

Daniel Greene

Obviously, we want the work orders to be as low as possible.

Daniel Greene

But when you're receiving 200,000 work orders per month, 2.5 million work orders per year, that's the number that we have to manage.

Daniel Greene

That's the number that I'm asked to manage.

Daniel Greene

And so that's what we're going to continue to do to the best of our ability.

Chris Banks

Thank you for that.
