Hollingsworth questions falling windows and inspections

New York City Council · Sep 22, 2026 · starts 0:11:56 · 39 sec

Hollingsworth says residents attempting to open newly installed windows had frames fall inward onto them, after which they were told not to touch the windows. She asks who installed and inspected the windows and how many failures have occurred.

Member of the Public - Carla Hollingsworth

Several residents have reported attempting to open newly installed windows only to have the window frame and all come inward and fall onto them.

Residents have subsequently been instructed not to touch or attempt to open their windows.

A newly renovated apartment should not be considered complete if a resident cannot safely operate the windows.

We want to know who installed these windows, who inspected them, how many failures have occurred, whether all similarly installed windows have been inspected, and why construction is continuing before the cause of these failures has been addressed.
