Porter describes Public Service Corps and Summer Internship Program
The Public Service Corps, celebrating 60 years, hosts 120 interns across 13 agencies; the Summer Internship Program hired over 900 interns across 27 agencies.
Another program we administer is the New York City Public Service Corps, the nation's first and largest off-campus internship program
that connects undergraduate and graduate students who participate in federal work study with paid or academic credit internships across a range of city agencies.
DCAS partners with New York City colleges, universities, and city agencies to offer diverse internship experiences that expose
all students to public service careers.
Celebrating its 60th year this year, Public Service Corps provides interns with crucial experience to help set them up on a path to public service.
This year, 13 agency partners are hosting more than 120 Public Service Corps interns.
This program is a tremendously beneficial one and has seen many city leaders come through the program.
I would also like to highlight two shorter-term programs that we oversee.
The first is the Summer Internship Program, which provides graduate and undergraduate students and recent graduates with valuable experience working for city government.
Interns work on meaningful projects, build professional skills, and explore career opportunities across a wide range of city agencies.
Interns can work during the summer from May through September for a maximum of 13 weeks.
This year, over 900 interns were hired across 27 agencies.
