Restler asks about global accountability from exam to hiring
Restler calls for measuring the entire timeline from exam posting to hiring; Porter says they are in initial stages of tracking but face challenges in a decentralized environment.
Could I do one more question and then I'll shut up?
Thank you so much.
The last thing I wanted to ask is just,
I really feel that DCAS should be measuring itself and we should be holding you all accountable from the time a test is posted until the time somebody is hired.
And we need to be thinking about that kind of global life cycle from post, you know, from kind of when,
from exam to hiring.
And I know you're not in control of every step of that process.
I get it.
But you are the closest thing we have to, as the deputy commissioner for talent, right?
Like as the person thinking globally about how do we make these systems work better.
And I really hope that as you think about the MMR moving forward, as we think about
holding ourselves accountable to do a better job at streamlining this process, we can lay out what that timeline looks like from beginning to end because it's not just
The PC is in DCAS's control.
We need to hold the agencies accountable too.
And I know you bring in the HR representatives.
I know you do your best to provide guidance and input to help them do their jobs better.
But we should have really good data that shows us that HPD is actually doing a great job with DCAS's help.
DOHMH is pooping the bed, or whatever it may be.
We need to see that data, and we need to hold ourselves accountable from beginning to end to understand where in the process are we having our greatest obstacles, where are the challenges.
Have you thought about a kind of global accountability from exam posting to hiring dates across the board for how we can do a better job of holding agencies and titles accountable in their hiring of individual titles?
Yes, the short answer is yes.
We are looking at that.
We're in the initial stages of those conversations.
And it is challenging to track what you're describing only because we work in a decentralized environment.
And there's data that we just don't have access to.
But we agree that that is something that we need to focus on and better track.
