Morano asks Van Auken for borough-by-borough outreach breakdown, especially Staten Island
Morano asks for a borough-by-borough breakdown of OME outreach spending, staffing, events, and service referrals, particularly for Staten Island; Van Auken notes a Staten Island community liaison and First Deputy Commissioner Singh describes flood and hurricane outreach and representation at the Postcards Memorial.
And for Commissioner Van Alken, your office and the Office of Mass Engagement is supposed to bring government closer to New Yorkers.
Can you provide a borough-by-borough breakdown of your outreach spending, staffing, community events, and completed service referrals?
In particular, I'm interested in what percentage has been directed to Staten Island and how are you measuring whether residents are actually receiving help?
Staten Island usually gets the short end of the stick.
We have a Staten Island community liaison.
Thank you for that question.
Some of the specifics I can't speak to you now and I can get back to you, but I want to pass it over to First Deputy Commissioner Singh to talk about some of the work we've done across the city.
Thank you so much, Council Member.
As the Commissioner had stated, we take our responsibility to outreach and engage with all New Yorkers, no matter which borough they are in, very seriously.
We have a Staten Island District Manager who is often on the island ensuring they are reaching out to various community-based organizations, faith-based organizations.
Just recently, they worked with our emergency response and recovery team around flooding and hurricane outreach to ensure that
many of the faith and community organizations were aware of the flood zones that they live in and what are the options and availabilities available to them.
They represented our office at the recent postcards memorial as well, which we make sure as an office we are turning.
And we continue to do great work on the borough.
Yeah, if you could get me the borough-by-borough breakdown of spending, staffing, et cetera, I'd appreciate it.
And hopefully I'll see the liaison at tonight's community board meeting.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
