Van Auken details interagency collaboration during heatwaves and SNAP outreach
Van Auken describes emergency response and faith partnerships emailing heat warnings to 600,000 New Yorkers and translating safety messaging, and the Public Engagement Unit knocking on 10,000 doors and making 40,000 calls to help 11,000 New Yorkers keep SNAP benefits.
Our teams also work extremely collaboratively with each other and with agencies across the city.
Emergency Response and the Office of Faith-Based Partnerships worked together during heatwave alerts, and OME emailed heat warning and cooling center information to over 600,000 New Yorkers.
Our Office of Faith-Based Partnerships tapped their stakeholder networks to get real-time updates of where New Yorkers were most impacted and used that information to recommend cooling center locations.
The Office of Faith-Based Partnerships and the Office of Community-Based Partnerships worked with the emergency response teams and MOIA.
to broaden City Hall's reach by translating urgent safety messaging into relevant languages,
contributing to an 800-entry long list of stakeholders and faith institutions for email blasts, and overall increasing the reach of rapid response messaging.
Our campaigns, borough organizing, and events teams have worked with the Department of Transportation to increase bus rider participation and feedback in the city's bus action plan,
and with the mayor's office to protect tenants to reach out to tenants living in distressed buildings throughout the city, as well as to landlords and property owners, enabling thousands of New Yorkers to participate in strengthening their communities and government.
