Wilson suggests regular review of social media policy; Smith-Cruz welcomes feedback
Wilson asks how often the social media policy is reviewed; Smith-Cruz says it was last updated in 2021 with a Department of Investigation request at that time, and Wilson suggests regularly occurring reviews given how quickly technology moves, which Smith-Cruz welcomes.
How often do you conduct a review of the social media policy?
Thank you for that question.
The social media policy was last updated in 2021, and I unfortunately don't have any understanding of when it was initiated.
I know there was a Department of Investigation.
Requests during that time for when it was evaluated.
I'm not sure what prompted that or what came to that point, but we led to this
policy that essentially puts social media at a place of permanence.
And so everything that is put to social media is permanently retained, which means that we keep it forever.
Given how quickly tech seems to be moving these days, it might make sense to have a regularly occurring review of these social media apps and how they affect our government communication.
Thank you for that feedback.
