Chair Encarnación asks about ACS written consent from attorneys
Chair Encarnación asks whether MOIA and the IRC will ensure ACS implements a procedure to seek written consent from children's attorneys before outreach to immigration authorities. Ali says ACS now uses a consent form and MOIA will continue working through the IRC.
So I know that they also indicated that they were developing a procedure to seek written consent from attorneys for children prior to outreach to immigration authorities on an individual's case.
Will MOIA and the IRC be involved in ensuring that those recommendations are implemented?
I think first it's important for us to highlight some of the progress that ACS made on this front.
ACS now uses a form to obtain written consent from attorneys for children before doing outreach to immigration authorities.
And MOIA will continue to work through the IRC to work with ACS along with some of the other agencies to implement these policies moving forward.
Gotcha.
