Chair Encarnación asks about Commissioner Ali's ongoing IRC role
Chair Encarnación asks Commissioner Ali about her ongoing role in the IRC and how significant it will be. Ali says the IRC is critical given fast-changing immigration enforcement and that senior City Hall leadership, including the First Deputy Mayor, shows the mayor takes the issue seriously.
And then just lastly, in terms of, you know,
your role in commissioner and the IRC, is this something that you see as a, I know you mentioned that there was a chair who was, who's sharing the first deputy mayor is chairing that.
What do you see as ongoing, um, your role being how significant in, in this,
particular thing because of course I want you to run it.
You know, given the climate and given the sort of fast changing nature of immigration enforcement and, you know, on activities on the ground and in policy, I think it's really critical the role that the IRC continues to play.
I think it's actually extremely important and to underscore having, you know, senior level city hall staff and team and leaders, frankly, guiding this work is what is, to me,
communicates that this is a serious issue for the mayor.
Having the first deputy mayor be present in these meetings to help guide the conversation is an indication that we are serious about protecting New Yorkers.
So this work is ongoing.
I'm really pleased to work.
I feel really privileged to work with.
with the FDM, with his team, with the chief counsel, having the support of the law department, and the countless staff, frankly, that make this work happen to show that
we are serious when it comes to protecting immigrant New Yorkers and families.
Thank you for that.
