Council Member Aviles asks about NYC Public Schools training rollout
Council Member Aviles asks whether MOIA is supporting NYC Public Schools in training staff on updated policies, not just leadership. Ali says MOIA is working closely with agencies on training timelines and ensuring policies do not sit on a shelf.
In terms of the work with the New York City Public Schools, again, thank you for, you know, being much more aggressive in this work with our city and our communities who are deeply struggling.
In terms of the policy, the updated policy.
Are you supporting New York City Public Schools'effort in
actually what training down looks like, because we find that these policies stay stuck in OGCs or in leadership and very little attention being paid to how they actually go through the system.
Yeah.
The one thing we want to avoid is a set of new policies that do the right thing and aren't actually being implemented.
And so we are working really closely with each of the agencies and including our partners at New York City Public Schools on timelines for their trainings and ensuring that these are completed.
The updated policies that were rolled out prior to the first day of school were shared with principals before that first day of school.
And so we are pleased to know that there has been some progress.
But part of the ongoing work with the IRC and the agencies is to ensure that this isn't something that sits on a shelf.
Yeah, all hands on deck.
Right.
We'd love them to be able to validate that from janitorial service to kitchen staff to educators and paras.
Everyone in the building should know those policies.
And we often find they stay stuck at the principal level or leadership in the school.
Thank you.
For that.
