Brown outlines rights guide and city services, supports Intro 949
Brown cites the Trans Rights or Human Rights campaign and a forthcoming rights and resource guide. She says H&H and DOHMH continue providing age-appropriate care, supports Intro 949, and notes existing DOHMH LGBTQ health pages, the Health Care Bill of Rights, and NYC Health Map. She then transitions to H&H testimony.
Building on the Trans Rights or Human Rights campaign that the administration previously launched to provide education and resources to transgender and non-binary New Yorkers about their legal and civil rights, including in healthcare,
my office is finalizing a comprehensive rights and resource guide that we hope to publish as soon as possible.
The administration will continue to work across agencies to ensure that transgender and non-binary New Yorkers are informed, protected, and served, especially during these unprecedented times.
Critically, the city continues to provide age-appropriate gender-affirming
care through services offered by both the Department of Health and NYC Health and Hospitals.
And finally, I want to thank Councilmember Shulman for putting forward Intro No.
0949-2026.
We support this bill and agree it is critical to provide information and resources to LGBTQI New Yorkers about health care services that are available to them.
The Health Department already has several resources for LGBTQI New Yorkers, including a suite of webpages, the LGBTQ Health Care Bill of Rights,
and the Pride and Care Health Tips for Transgender and Gender Nonconforming and Nonbinary People booklet, available on the Health Department's website in 13 languages.
The Health Department's NYC Health Map is currently available online as well.
LGBTQI New Yorkers seeking care can search the Health Map by LGBTQ Services and more.
My colleagues from the Health Department have a few points to clarify in the bill language and look forward to discussing the bill further.
Thank you again for the opportunity to provide this testimony.
I look forward to discussion today and answering any questions helpful to the Council on these issues.
And I will turn it over to my colleagues from the Department of Health.
Or, sorry, health and hospitals?
Oh, sorry.
Sorry, health and hospitals.
We've met on Zoom, but it's never the same in person.
