Narcisse follows up on families who obstruct gender-affirming care
Narcisse describes ER experience where family beliefs can obstruct care for young people. Fattal says H&H treats the whole person including family, while practicing within New York State OMH guidelines and regulations.
Okay.
So if a family actually come with the young folks and they are not as kind of like not in a place where they, because what I have found in my time
in the ER, sometimes they can be an obstruction for you because of their belief or whatever it may be.
So do you kind of like providing that kind of support right away to make sure the family kind of have an understanding and more kind of like helping with the process of providing the care for that young person?
Yeah, 100%.
We treat the whole person.
We don't look only at the mental health side of things.
We look at the...
whole person and treating the whole person includes including their family and involving them.
I do have to say that we practice within all four corners of the law and we practice within the New York State OMH guidelines and regulations.
So obviously we do all of this within the available guidelines that we have.
