Brewer asks how many certified MWBEs actually get city contracts
Brewer asks what percentage of certified MWBEs win city contracts, saying business owners doubt it is worth applying. Khan says 70% of MWBE firms that won contracts benefited from SBS services, and Brewer suggests publicizing that success rate.
And the other thing I hear, but maybe this isn't a statistic that's available.
So you are an MBW Get Certified.
How many of those get city contracts?
My friends are difficult.
They say, oh, Gail, I will apply and I won't get a city contract.
So why do I even apply in the first place?
So is that a number that exists or is it something that just, you know, you don't keep track of?
That is a number that Chief Garner and other principals.
principles in City Hall are driving agencies to achieve higher utilization.
Right.
On our end.
I've been doing that for years, that guy.
Sorry.
Sorry, Hansel.
I missed your question.
I've been doing that for a long time.
Go ahead.
So I know they're driving that effort and driving the governance and the policymaking for this program.
What we're really proud of, because we're a resource provider, education agency, and then we do the certification process, is that of the MWB firms that do win contracts, over 70% of them have benefited from SBS services along the way,
which kind of drives the point that we could be pushing agencies to do more.
We can also be supporting the MWB firms to be best positioned for these contracting opportunities.
And so we have a robust set of programming that we're always engaged in and always interested in providing support to businesses and putting their best foot forward.
I guess down the line would be making the world know that this number of persons have been certified.
And if you are certified, then X percentage are likely of all of you to get contracts from the city.
So it's worth you putting the time in in the beginning.
Something to think about.
To let people know.
Thank you.
