Farías calls for using data, utilization goals, and improvement plans more aggressively
Farías says the city is not using the data in front of it or ensuring utilization goals and improvement plans reach underserved communities. She calls for bigger thinking to ensure Black women, Latinas, and other women of color actually get contracts.
I think that's part of the reason why we're looking at legislation.
It's part of the reason why we're having this hearing and we've had this hearing year after year in the council.
Realistically, we are not utilizing the data in front of us.
We're not seeing utilization goals.
Coming up with plans or even doing the outreach necessary in communities where we're lacking certification, where we know businesses exist
and we're not getting them in to take 20 lists and make sure 15 out of those 20 people that we're going to promote to an organization or an agency
for a $7.5 million contract is either a woman and or a black woman and or a Latina.
etc.
Like, I think that is what we're really talking about here and what we're trying to get to at the crux of.
I know you folks know this as well, but I think we need to put bigger thinking hats on when we're looking at these, the data's in front of us along with the utilization goals and potentially these improvement plans on how to get more people in.
To ensure that they're actually
getting the contracts that are afforded to them by the taxes they pay and being a part of New York City.
I look forward to getting the response on the question that I asked before.
